But even on unfamiliar roads or in bad weather, it gives you the added security of all-round visibility, reliable traction, ABS braking power and our Vehicle Dynamics Control System (2.5XT AT models) on every mile of every journey.

Seeing safer

Visibility is also a main factor in active safety. So, while the Forester's ride height gives you a commanding view to start with, the design of its side pillars adds more to your vision, while the cut-out rear window gives you a wider outlook - so that even a 1m tall child standing right behind the back of the vehicle can still be seen.

ABS braking

4-sensor/4-channel ABS is standard on the Forester. Working through compact sensors on all four wheels, it detects wheel lock-up instantly - keeping you in control and letting you brake safely and steer away from the source of trouble at the same time. Combined with Electronic Brake-force Distribution technology, and coupled with high-performance brakes, the system minimises changes in braking distances due to different load conditions, by actively controlling rear wheel braking force.

Vehicle Dynamics Control System

There are built-in safeguards with Symmetrical AWD, obviously. But Subaru's commitment to active safety goes far beyond the norm with the Forester. Although it's already as stable as any ordinary car fitted with traction control, the Forester's system takes it to a new level of pro-active safety Its Vehicle Dynamics Control simultaneously monitors and analyses actual driving situations. Then, it senses the edge of control. Based on the level of danger, AWD torque distribution and engine power output are controlled plus the braking system for each wheel is activated. This all helps to avoid unstable handling performance and enhances the overall driving experience (Standard on the 2.5XT AT models)
