Sports car power,
with extra feel-good experience.

Subaru's trademark Horizontally-Opposed Engines are key factors in giving the Forester its sporty feel and crossover capabilities. They deliver high cruising speeds on the road, with a wide band of useable power across the rev range. While on rough terrain, there’s all the drivability you need. Both engines are DOHC, to match the flexible demands of an SUV. The 2.5-litre turbo and the 2.0-litre both share Symmetrical AWD and the boxer layout – uniquely reflecting the DNA of the rally cars.

Built around the pedigree of the WR Car, its high-end power and low to mid-range torque are above its class, while a secondary air system reduces hydrocarbon emissions when the engine first starts. An Active Valve Control System helps to balance power output with fuel economy, so that you get the best of both worlds.

*This engine was voted Best 2-2.5-litre engine in the International Engine of the Year Awards 2006, presented by UKIP Media & Events Automotive Magazines.

SUBARU BOXER 2.0-litre DOHC engine

Free-revving, and delivering responsive agility, this engine has Subaru's Active Valve Control System to give the best balance of high-end power, low to mid-range torque and fuel consumption. Its equal length, constant pulsation exhaust system reduces back pressure, for more effective exhaust efficiency, while still giving that unmistakable boxer sound.
