Symmetry in motion
with sportiness and precision.

Traction, agility and stability are not normally associated with high-riding SUVs. The key to the Forester's performance is that the drivetrain is laid out straight and symmetrically from side to side. Set low like the engine, this means less roll in corners, a superb turning action and positive steering. Added to the AWD grip and turbo power, it gives Forester the ability to avoid unexpected obstacles in varying road conditions, and means more peace of mind for everyone on board.

Electronically-controlled 4-speed Automatic Transmission (E-4AT) SPORTSHIFT*

Standard on the 2.5XT Turbo, this transmission features SPORTSHIFT*, which lets you shift manually whenever you want, in a simple forward or backward movement of the gear lever. The AT-Engine coordinated control also promises smooth driving and gear-shifting as and when you want. The Variable Torque Distribution AWD system is built in to transfer more torque to the rear, for sportier performance.

Electronically-controlled 4-speed Automatic Transmission (E-4AT)

Designed around a direct hydraulic control system, this transmission contributes to better response and gear change quality. The AT-Engine coordinated control system makes this possible, while torque distribution is automatically adjusted between front and rear. An Active Torque Split system in the AWD layout makes sure that this happens in line with prevailing road conditions, while electronic control of torque distribution reacts instantly to changing situations.

5-speed Manual Transmission (5MT)

Incredibly direct, seamless shifts, quietly and smoothly delivered, give a high-quality, sports driving feel, to make full use of the engine's power. Available on the 2.5XT and 2.0X models, this lightweight, compact gearbox is laid out longitudinally, while the centre differential system is equipped with a Viscous LSD. On the 2.0X, it incorporates a Dual-range system for Hi/Lo range shifting, to help you make the most of DOHC power under all kinds of driving conditions, from high performance on road to rough-road towing.
