Protection from every direction is built in.

In the event of an unavoidable collision, Subaru's first priority is passenger protection. Given the frailty of the human frame in these circumstances, it's our responsibility to do what we can to minimise the effects of impacts from various directions. There's a full security package surrounding everybody on board an Impreza, which will help to limit the severity of any unforeseen accident, for every occupant.

Seatbelts, airbags and active headrests

There're many passive protection devices all round the Impreza's cabin. Front seatbelts have pretensioners and load limiters, with three 3-point belts in the rear. SRS* dual front airbags are standard, with front seat SRS* dual front side airbags as an option. There are child tether anchors and ISO-FIX adapted child seat anchors, plus active front headrests (except for the WRX models), which move forwards automatically to cradle the head and reduce the severity of whiplash injury in rear-end collisions.

*SRS= Supplemental Restraint System.
Effective when used in conjunction with seatbelts.

Ring-Shaped Reinforcement Frames

Although the Impreza's body is very rigid and designed to deform in a controlled way in unavoidable collisions, its inherent safety is also enhanced by a ring-shaped cage of highly strong steel. Reinforcements to roof, rear end, door frames, pillars and floor are linked in an all-round shield that absorbs enormous amounts of energy in impacts from any direction. So, everyone inside can feel more secure. Attention to detail is the key to reassurance, right down to a breakaway pedal that reduces the risk of driver's lower limb injuries in frontal collisions.

Pedestrian protection

By using energy absorbing front bumpers, bonnet and wings, while increasing the distance between the bonnet and engine and using breakaway wipers, Subaru is pro-active in protecting pedestrians should they unfortunately happen to be struck by the Impreza.
