Horizontally-Opposed to traditional thinking.

SUBARU BOXER engines are fuelled by FIA WRC competition and honed to provide the best possible combination of smooth power delivery across the rev range, for drivability and poise under different road conditions. All engines, including the new 1.5-litre, are DOHC with Active Valve Control System, for instant response and flexibility, matched to the permanent availability of Symmetrical AWD. Whichever you choose, this is performance art with a high degree of emotion and the most advanced technologies, as practiced and proven on Subaru's WR Cars.

SUBARU BOXER 2.5-litre DOHC turbo engine*

Well-proven technologies from the FIA WRC arena make this a superbly torquey powerplant for the WRX models. Turbo power is always available on tap for overtaking, yet this is also a smooth and tractable engine in city traffic. A secondary air system makes for good exhaust performance, too. So you can enjoy the performance to the full, while emissions are kept to a minimum.

SUBARU BOXER 2.0-litre DOHC engine

Naturally-aspirated, but with the inherent appeal of a DOHC engine, everything about this version is designed for exceptionally smooth revving. Its combination of Active Valve Control System and 4-2-1 equal-length, constant pulsation exhaust gives not only seamless linear acceleration, but also the sound of the SUBARU BOXER's rich engine note.

This all-new development of Subaru engine technology is squarely aimed at balancing performance with environmental efficiency. It features exclusive refinements within the engine block itself, as well as the 4-1 constant pulsation exhaust system - tuned to deliver drivability at the same time as low emissions. The 1.5-litre gives a truly smooth SUBARU BOXER feel and familiar free-revving DOHC for a quicker response, confirming its Subaru lineage.
