5-speed Manual Transmission (5MT) for all models

It goes without saying that a slick-changing manual gearbox is a delight to match with the Impreza's prodigious power. You have complete control over the way you want to drive, translating your wishes into a feeling of laration, whichever of the 5MT models you choose. This is the ultimate expression of Impreza's driving experience - and with the Sports Wagon of 2.0R and 1.5R models, there's the added advantage of a Dual-range Hi-Lo capability.

Electronically-controlled 4-speed Automatic Transmission (E-4AT)

This advanced automatic transmission uses direct hydraulic control and electronically-controlled torque distribution to make the most of the 2.0-litre and new 1.5-litre DOHC engines' performance strengths. With the Engine-AT coordinated control system and Active Torque Split AWD working together, performance, gearshift timing and fuel consumption are all optimised.

Low-mounted transmission

Like the engine, the transmission is also mounted low. In addition, it is positioned in the wheelbase for less overhang weight. In turn, that gives great traction, agility and stability with terrific grip and a true sporting feel.
