Keeping you well away
from trouble is our priority.

The ability to avoid unexpected hazards and potential accidents is fundamental to Subaru's research and development ethic. Naturally, Symmetrical AWD, with its full-time grip and sure-footed cornering helps the Legacy give you that reassurance - even on unfamiliar roads or in bad weather. It also gives you the added security of all-round visibility, reliable ABS braking power, the Vehicle Dynamics Control System* and brake-assist to help your responses make the best of the unexpected, while you enjoy driving pleasure in safety.

ABS braking

4-sensor/4-channel ABS is standard on the Legacy. It detects wheel lock-up instantly - keeping you in control and letting you brake safely and steer away from trouble at the same time. It's combined with Electronic Brake-force Distribution technology, and high-performance ventilated disc brakes as well as speed-responsive brake assist (2.0R), which boosts braking performance when a sensor detects insufficient pedal pressure in emergency braking - an added reassurance in hazard avoidance.

Vehicle Dynamics Control System

There are built-in safeguards with Symmetrical AWD, obviously. But Subaru's commitment to active safety goes far beyond the norm with the Legacy. Although it's already as stable as any ordinary car fitted with traction control, the Legacy's system takes it to a new level of pro-active safety. Its Vehicle Dynamics Control simultaneously monitors and analyses actual driving situations. Then, it senses the edge of control. Based on the level of unstability, AWD torque distribution and engine power output are controlled plus the braking system for each wheel is activated. This all helps to avoid unstable handling performance and enhances the overall driving experience. (Standard on the 3.0-litre models, optional on the 2.0R AT models)
