Secure, certainly.
Thrilling? Absolutely.

Given its generous 200 mm ground clearance, you might expect the Outback to demonstrate some of the less desirable characteristics of high-riding AWD vehicles. But it just doesn't happen. Because all the heavier items sit low in the chassis, to give a lower centre of gravity, you'll find superb handling, stability and excellent traceability in corners, with less pitch and roll than you'd expect - making this an ideal AWD sporting vehicle, under different conditions.

Lightweight body

The Outback's lightweight body not only improves performance and fuel consumption but makes no compromises when it comes to safety. We apply a range of different technologies to reduce weight in components, but without affecting overall strength in impact situations. Aluminium is extensively used - coupled with high-tensile strength steel and Tailored-Blank welding techniques, so that the Outback's drivers inherit security, as well as agility and performance ability.

Suspension

With a combination of high-rigidity long-stroke strut suspension at the front, and supple multi-link design to the rear, the latest Outback brings together a rigid body and supple yet taut suspension that offsets extra ground clearance with great handling and comfort. The result is a balance between sportiness and stability. Add in the self-levelizer and you can preserve driving poise whether you are carrying luggage or a heavier load in the back. It's a 'Crossover' concept that's perfectly in tune with sports driving and rugged practicality.
